| Valentine’s Day |
For the very first it was adopted by Hindu community as they were closer to the English people. After that elite class liberal Muslims started celebrated the day as a fun and as a source of enjoyment. Initially they did not find any shortcoming because they thought that it was nothing more than a fun. Time did not stop and developments were being made. Along with advancement, liberalism and encroachment in every field, Valentine’s Day is now celebrated in almost every corner of the world with some exceptions no doubt. In Pakistan, young girls and guys are found exchanging red roses, gifts and chocolates as a symbol of love and affection. Most of them are the college and university students. Not only the elite class people are found indulged in such activities but also the youngsters’ belonging middle class and lower middle class perform such activities in order to be called liberal and fashionable.
Traditions of Islam are found fading at February 14 every year in Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Some liberal advocates are found motivating the youth to celebrate the day in order to have a chance to create memories of student life. On the other hand, it causes a number of social melodies with long lasting worsening effects over the social values and norms. Different sort of whole night dance parties are arranged in the honor of the specific day. Young guys and girls endeavor to find a perfect suitable partner for them so that they can attend and enjoy the parties. The practice is found more frequent in bigger cities rather than in smaller ones. This, in my view point, is a little bit supportive spot to save the values. I am failed to find any advantage of the day however here I have a list of worst effects of this day on our society. Unfortunately people are a lot much liberalized and inspired by the western culture that they do not find it reasonable if somebody raise his or her voice against celebration of this day. This single day causes shamelessness which has long term consequences. Last year, I encountered with a post on a social media website which was explaining the message by CM Punjab. In the message, he put strict orders and charges if somebody could be found celebrating the day. I was a little bit satisfied that government still has realization of such melodies. I was quite relaxed at the day that people will be controlled in this regard and environment will be acceptable. But I was so much disappointed when I found that restaurants were especially decorated as I found them on Eid days. The root causes are not eliminated and laws are enforced. Consequently no positive outcomes are revealed. It has concealed our values and identity throughout.
Modernity and moderation has been a debate among socialists since long. However modernity does not call for extremism. We ought to stick on our values and norms which were inherited to us by our ancestors. Males and females both parties are equally culprits of the charge. Both have equal contribution in spreading the melodies. This year, I have a twinkling anticipation that people will think about their circumstances and eradicate such wool gatherings. As a last resort, we only can appeal the governing bodies to please plan and implement practically by spreading relevant awareness among the youth. The need of time is true leadership.
