| Reasons of Electricity/power shortfall at Pakistan |
There are many economic and financial problems in Pakistan at the moment. Being a developing country, energy crisis and power shortage is one of the major problems that Pakistanis are facing these days. Our lives are dependent on gas and power. Energy crisis can be a very serious issue for the development of a country. Energy attributes to a lot
of production and fuel work and many industries like baking; cloth and transport are dependent on usage of fuel and energy in the country. Energy resources are the backbone of any economy and contribute to a lot of revenue.
There is lot of demand in power and energy and supply is less. The result is low or no gas pressure in many cities of Pakistan. Places where people need food to be cooked with the help of energy are less. The current economic condition of Pakistan isn’t very good. There is a huge shortfall in the energy and power resources. During the last decade, the Pakistani population has increased and energy resources have declined. With low energy resources, weakening economy and increase in population are the main contributing factors towards energy shortfall in Pakistan. The prices are also increasing and electricity theft is also common in Pakistan. These minor factors also contribute towards power shortage. Pakistan daily needs 15,000 to 20,000 mw of energy but it is hardly meeting only 12,000 mw. So there is a shortfall of about 8,000 MW. There are also many dams in Pakistan that produce MW of electricity. Besides these resources, there also other resources like wind, earth resources that contribute towards power generation.
The main reasons for power shortage in Pakistan are increase in population, weakening and unplanned economic infrastructure, political instability, lack of economic reforms and planning, corruption, rise in living standards of people, expansion of many new housing schemes and introduction of new sectors, rise of many industries, and rise in transportation. Due to increase in population, the number of electricity consumers has also increased. Unfortunately, the energy crisis has reached such a level that we see unannounced hours of load shedding now. Three heaviest power consumption sectors of Pakistan are industrial, transport and domestic. Also, a lot of energy is also wasted in Pakistan.
